Recently, Grammy Award winning Soul/RN’B artiste, Miguel, was involved in an online controversy that drew the ire of many fans and admirers. He is currently touring many cities and performing to sold-out crowds. Of course, like a true performer, one has to try out different things to keep the fans who have spent precious money and time to come watch you, entertained.
Miguel decided to switch things up, along these lines, at a concert in Bern. He took off his shirt. Of course this is very normal for most male artistes with washboard abs and rippling muscles (This doesn’t include you, Rick Ross.) Miguel didn’t stop at that. He decided to simulate having sex on stage. He was literally having sex except he was doing it with thin air. He went through all the motions, in slow motion, putting on protection, starting slow and then quickening pace. It was quite a sight.
Now, many artistes, male and female, these days sell sex. It is almost a rite of passage to becoming successful because you need to keep the fans titillated, waiting with bated breath; excite their senses (and even body parts) to remain relevant. Male stars like Usher and Trey Songz do it all the time and no one bats an eyelid.
However, Miguel had no such luck. Judging from the comments, it would seem these are the three reasons why. First, he is not genuinely seen as a sex symbol. Second, he is seen as a fraud that has niggling question to answer about his sexuality and third, he is held in such high regard that this particular act was deemed classless and unnecessary.
